ACCURO Q1 2023 PROJECT UPDATES

GIRLS’ LEARNING CENTRE

Construction of the Girls’ Learning Centre is going very well, the sense of excitement in the community is fantastic. The project remains on budget despite a number of challenges with fluctuating fuel and equipment prices.

This is the first project of its kind in Nepal and the structure is getting a lot of attention in the media, this helps spread news of the work we do on our empowerment program, reaching more girls around Nepal and letting them know that support is available.

We aim to complete the build in Q3 this year.

CHILD NUTRITION

MIDDAY MEALS

Over the last two years we have been feeding thousands of school children a midday meal 6 days a week and working to educate pregnant women and new mums on healthy eating and hygiene.

Along with these programmes and more we have been training up local leaders and teachers to copy our work to pass onto others and make the program largely self-sustaining.

MIDDAY MEALS

This quarter was a particularly busy time for the program as we handed over responsibility to the very capable teams as we move into a new area for the next 2 year phase. The programme has made a vast difference to school attendance, student focus and above all health.

We visited all schools unannounced where we have set up the midday meal program and it was great to see that everyone was working in the way we had agreed and all taking pride in the difference this program is making.

We will now move into a new working area whilst continuing to monitor the community we leave behind.

We will be bringing some of the trained team members to the new area to assist with kicking off the new phase with the added knowledge of everything we have learned to improve the program over the last 2 years.

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK ON THE NUTRITION PROGRAM

Now that the 2 year cycle is complete we will put together a detailed report on all aspects of the program, its achievements and what we have learned and share with Accuro once complete.

SCHOOL RENDERING

BURMESE MIGRANT SCHOOL, MAE SOT, THAILAND

Ground works are already well underway and the bricks we are using are prepared.

We are using Adobe bricks made on site by our team, they are eco-friendly, cheap and perfect for the conditions of the area. Adobe bricks are essentially made of soil and organic materials.

SCHOOL PLANS

As work is already underway we plan to complete this school for 90 deeply underprivileged migrant children within 6 weeks, so mid May 2023, a week or two before they return from a holiday break.

ECO LEARNING CENTRE PERU

Work has begun in Peru, the land has been cleared, 100 trees have been planted and the irrigation canal has been dug. We now have water and electricity on site and a shipping container has been delivered that will have multiple uses throughout the build process and eventually serve as a classroom and library.

Things are going very well and we are ahead of schedule and on budget. The centre is due to open in February 2024.

GIRLS’ EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM

Our Girls’ Empowerment Program continues to go from strength to strength reaching more girls every month.

As we head into our 6th year it's been fantastic to look back at just how far the girls have come.

When we met the girls they would never have dreamed of having career or education options. They are now so excited about future prospects that we are starting a business coaching element of the program.

A successful UK businesswoman has generously offered her time pro-bono to work with a core group of girls online to teach them about business and careers. If successful we will roll this element of the program out to a much wider group of girls.

Please click the link below for a full month report from the ground. Typically we share the highlights with Accuro, however we thought it would be a good idea to show you everything that goes on in a typical month for your reference.

This report is straight from our project manager in Nepal, so please excuse any typos etc.
